First sip
The AI story this week was not really about who sounds smartest. It was about who feels hardest to leave. OpenAI looked a bit stronger anywhere the conversation touched memory, workflow fit and the kind of daily usefulness that turns a model into a habit. Anthropic still has plenty of believers, but the week felt less like a Claude victory lap and more like the race tightening again around habit and product quality.
WLFI put the Trump family back at the center of the wrong kind of conversation just as crypto has been picking up better political footing. The problem was not just another bad headline. World Liberty reportedly borrowed roughly $75 million against its own token through Dolomite, a platform linked to one of its advisors, in a setup that raised insider questions and trapped ordinary depositors on the other side. The market did not shrug it off either. WLFI dropped to record lows as the deal got picked apart.
The point: the AI race tightened around product quality. WLFI reopened crypto’s credibility problem.
Watch next: At 1:40:14, the OpenAI-Anthropic battle still looks like the one that matters most. The better question is why the race feels like it is shifting again.
In this episode you will get
Where OpenAI felt a bit stronger on memory, workflow fit and default behavior
Why Claude still has real conviction behind it even as the momentum feels less one-sided
What made the OpenAI-Anthropic battle feel open again instead of settled
Action Box
Do: Pay attention to the product you keep coming back to
Check: Whether the edge is actually in the model or in memory, workflow and product design around it.
Watch: If OpenAI is building a real lead in habit and default behavior, or if Anthropic closes the gap again.
☕ Quick sip
Has Trump been a net positive or net negative for crypto?
This week on Coffee with Captain
The AI race started looking like a real product fight again. The conversation with Bunchu brought us the latest in a battle over memory, workflow fit and default behavior. OpenAI got the nod without the race feeling settled, which is probably the most interesting place for it to be right now.
Crypto got dragged back into the wrong argument. WLFI is back in the headlines. The Trump family got brought back to the center of crypto’s credibility problem. It feel like that is the part that keeps costing the space. Real progress keeps getting wrapped in behavior that makes the whole thing harder to defend.
The better crypto stories were the ones that felt built to be used. Base made onboarding look cleaner through passkeys and more app-like flows. Harmony pushed minting toward participation mechanics instead of another static drop. BAYC looked strongest when the conversation moved to Clubhouse, local meetups and Otherside as actual infrastructure, while the best NFT talk all week centered on access, delegation and better collector tools.
